A concrete hut located along a once accessible track above Reservoir Road near the car park, is now concealed by overgrown vegetation. Previously visible from the Sunny Grove and Hine Road area, the area has been reclaimed by trees, rendering the hut entirely obscured from view. The Wellington City Council built it between 1901 and 1926 when they were responsible for the water supply from Wainuiomata to Wellington. The hut contained a water flow meter system that controlled the steel pipe measuring approximately 53 centimetres (21 inches) located beneath the track. The hut is rectangular, measuring 3.365 metres on the east/west side, and 2.455 metres on the north/south side. It has a height of 2.5 metres from the outside to the curved concrete rooftop.

Interesting! You seem to know a little more than I do about these old artifacts (I presumed the pipe was slightly in front of the metering “hut”). I am wondering if you know any more about this areas artifacts, as I am slowly researching (hobby) the area as well, thanks. feel free to msg / email.
Yes, I know a reasonable amount. I know of an underground room that has access to a pipe that no one appears to know about. I know its general location, but haven’t found it yet. I’ll email you.
Hello David Johnston. I am also a friend of the above Tony. Please email me and supply your phone number so that I can call you asap.
I would very much like to talk to you as I’m trying to write up a bit of historical research on the pipeline. We may be able to help each other by exploring together, and discussing facts. I live in Wainuiomata and have done so for many years.
