New Zealand Pigeon

The New Zealand Pigeon (Maori: kererū) is endemic to New Zealand. They are a large bird with iridescent green and bronze feathers and a white belly. Their wings make a whooshing sound, so can be easy to spot.

They are the only disperser of seeds for some native tree species, so are an important forest bird. While they are common on the Westcoast of the South Island, their numbers are in decline elsewhere.
