View of Christchurch Cathedral, Christmas 2000. Also known as Christ Church Cathedral, the building is a prominent landmark and historical building located in the heart of Christchurch, New Zealand. It is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch and has played a significant role in the city’s religious and architectural heritage. On February 22, 2011, the city of Christchurch was struck by a powerful aftershock measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale. This earthquake caused severe damage to the city and the cathedral, resulting in the collapse of the spire and significant structural damage to the building.
