The square is surrounded by important historical buildings such as the Cathedral of Bogotá, the Palacio de Nariño, and the Palacio de Justicia. The square is also home to several statues, including one of Simon Bolívar and one of Francisco de Paula Santander, another leader in the independence movement. The square is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, and is often used for public events and protests.
