Argentina is a country of great diversity. It spans a wide range of latitudes in the Southern Hemisphere giving it a large variety of climates and temperature. The highest temperature recorded was 47.3 °C (117.1 °F) and the lowest −40 °C (−40 °F).

Climate

In the north down to the center of the country the climate is hot with sub-tropical forests in the east and arid areas in the west toward the Andes. As you head south it gets cooler, and can get very cold during winter in Patagonia, the southern most part of the South American continent.

Main geographical features include the Andes– the second highest mountain range on earth; Patagonia – the southern section of the Andes mountains; Gran Chaco – a vast hot and semi-arid lowland plain; Mesopotamia – contains subtropical rain forest and several large rivers including Iguazu; The Pampas – an area of extensive grasslands or steppe; Iberá – an area of extensive swampland that includes a large array of birds and butterflies; and Los Lagos Region – includes high mountains in the Andes with many scenic glacial lakes.

  • Monte Fitz Roy is mountain with protruding mountain peaks that look otherworldly. It is a photographers dream and the panorama it creates is a sight you will never forget.
  • Beagle Channel is a strait in the beautiful Tierra del Fuego Archipelago in the southern tip of the South American continent.
