About Buenos Aires
View photos of Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Buenos Aires is the capital city of Argentina. It is also the largest city in the country and the second-largest in South America. Often dubbed “The Paris of South America” the city seems to belong more in Europe than South America. There are countless blocks of historical and colonial buildings, a smaller modern sector in Puerto Madero where skyscrapers abound, and poorer barrios such as La Boca where houses are painted in bright colours giving the area a unique artistic look.
Popular places to see in Buenos Aires include:
- Flores – the home of Pope Francis;
- La Boca
- Microcentro
- Monserrat – home to some of the city’s most significant buildings;
- Palermo – the place for bars, cafes, clothing stores, boutique shops, and nightlife.
- Puerto Madero
- Recoleta – with its stately apartments, plush hotels; Recoleta Cultural Centre, and the famous La Recoleta Cemetery;
- Retiro – home of 5 star hotels;
- San Cristòbal – the place of aristocracy and tango;
- San Nicolás – the location of the most famous streets such as Avenida 9 de Julio, Avenida Corrientes and Florida;
- San Telmo is the oldest neighborhood of Buenos Aires has wonderful colonial buildings and cobblestone streets filled artisans, cafes, restaurants, and antique shops.
