About Fox Glacier

Photos of Fox Glacier in the South Island of New Zealand.

Like the nearby Franz Josef Glacier, Fox Glacier is one of the most accessible glaciers in the world, attracting numerous visitors each year.

The glacier flows from the Southern Alps down to the temperate rainforest, creating a unique juxtaposition of landscapes.

Like many glaciers worldwide, Fox Glacier has been experiencing a significant retreat over the years. This means that the glacier’s terminus (the point where the ice meets the valley floor) has been steadily moving back.

Scenic helicopter and fixed-wing flights are available to witness breathtaking aerial views of Fox Glacier, ice fields, surrounding mountains, and waterfalls.
