ABOUT

About Africa

The continent of Africa is situated below Europe and is massive, extending across both hemispheres. It boasts a wide variety of landscapes and climates.

Its landscapes include the Sahara, the world’s largest desert area, as well as tropical rain forests in the central region and vast savanna grasslands inhabited by a variety of animal species further south. Below that lies another arid zone before giving way to a temperate climate in the farthest southern region.

The continent has a rich history, dating back as far as 5000 years with the Pharaonic civilization of Ancient Egypt lasting for several millennia. Today, the northern part of Africa, including Egypt, is predominantly Muslim, while central and southern Africa were home to smaller tribes before European colonization drew borders in the early 19th century. South Africa, occupying the southern tip of the continent, was ruled by a white minority until the end of apartheid in 1994. Overall, Africa is the ancestral home of the Negroid race, with Arabs and Berbers dominating the northern portion of the continent.h Arabs and Berbers dominating the northern portion of the continent.
