A lake is a large body of freshwater that is surrounded by land. Lakes can be found in various sizes and shapes, and can be formed by a variety of geological processes such as glacial activity, river erosion, and volcanic activity. Some of the largest lakes in the world include the Caspian Sea, the Baikal Lake, and the Superior Lake.
