The Redwoods in the Whakarewarewa Forest (also known as The Redwoods Forest) near Rotorua, New Zealand, is renowned for its towering Californian coastal redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens). The forest was established in 1901 as an experimental forest to determine which exotic trees would grow well in New Zealand.

Californian redwoods were among the species planted, and they have thrived due to the rich volcanic soil and ideal climate. THese trees are over 100 years old and can reach heights of up to 75 metres (246 feet), though they are still young compared to their natural lifespan (which can exceed 2,000 years).
