While Rivendell is a fictional location in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth universe, the location for Rivendell in Kaitoke is a real place. Kaitoke is located near Wellington in New Zealand and contains scenic forested areas and tranquil streams. The area now called Rivendell after the Lord of the Rings movies were transformed into the mystical Elven haven where the characters of Frodo, Gandalf, Arwen, and Elrond meet and plot their journey to destroy the One Ring. Pictured is the main path from the carpark to Rivendell.
