Nouméa located on the island of Grande Terre is both the biggest city and capital of New Caledonia. This large sized town has a unique blend of French and Melenesian influences. In the CBD you will find museums, cathedrals, cafes and restaurants. Melenesian art and craft shops and local food markets are also abundant. The city is a popular stopover for South Pacific cruises and there is usually a liner parked in the port. The boat pictured is the Pacific Sky (circa 2004).
