The Sidney Myer Music Bowl, situated in Melbourne’s Kings Domain Gardens near the Arts Centre and the Southbank suburb, was funded in 1929 by philanthropist Sidney Myer. He drew inspiration from the iconic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. He envisioned a similar venue in Melbourne for outdoor performances by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. In 1980, management of the Bowl was transferred to the Victorian Arts Centre.
