About the Amazonas
Photos of the Amazonas Department in Colombia.
Amazonas is a department in Colombia, located in the southwestern part of the country, bordering both Brazil and Peru, as well as the departments of Putumayo, Caquetá, and Vaupés. The capital of Amazonas is Leticia. The Amazonas region is mostly covered by the Amazon rainforest, which is home to a diverse array of plant and animal species. The region is also home to several indigenous communities, many of which still maintain traditional ways of life. The economy of the department is based largely on agriculture, forestry, and fishing, and it is also an important center for eco-tourism.
