The Wairarapa region to the north-east of Wellington that is famous for its wineries, vineyards, and cafes & restaurants. Located just an hour’s drive from Wellington, Wairarapa offers diverse attractions. Explore Martinborough’s vineyards or visit Cape Palliser, the North Island’s southernmost point.

Even the drive from Wellington to the Wairarapa is scenic. The Remutaka Hill road unveils views of this rural region from ranges to the west, plains in the center, and a rugged coastline to the south.

Attractions here include the unusual Putangirua Pinnacles, Waiohine Gorge, Cape Palliser, and the quaint fishing town of Ngawi.

The Wairarapa is also a Dark Sky Reserve, and the only one located in the North Island. It is also the most accessible in the country.
