The Barry Hadfield Nīkau Reserve is a forested area of Nīkau palms on the Kapiti Coast. The reserve has an easy loop track from a carpark with an additional challenging stepped track that rises above the forest. Nikau palms are the only palm tree on earth that naturally grow outside the tropics. It is also New Zealand’s only palm species.
