About Perth
Our photos of Perth date back to 1988. This modern urban center is isolated from the rest of Australia’s big cities and is considered the world’s most isolated city (over one million people).
Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and is located on the southwestern coast of the country. It is the fourth-most populous city in Australia, with a population of over 2 million people.
Perth has a Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Summers typically last from December to February, with temperatures often exceeding 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Winters are relatively mild, with temperatures ranging from 8 to 19 degrees Celsius (46 to 66 degrees Fahrenheit).
Perth offers a range of attractions and activities for visitors. Some popular attractions include Kings Park and Botanic Garden, which offers stunning views of the city skyline and the Swan River. The Perth Mint, Fremantle Prison, and the Western Australian Museum are also noteworthy places to visit. Additionally, Perth’s pristine beaches, such as Cottesloe Beach and Scarborough Beach, are popular spots for swimming, surfing, and relaxing.
The city has a vibrant cultural scene with numerous theaters, galleries, and museums. The Perth Cultural Centre, located in the city center, is a hub for arts and cultural activities, housing the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Western Australian Museum, the State Library of Western Australia, and the State Theatre Centre.
The surrounding areas of Perth offer plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. Rottnest Island, located just off the coast, is a popular destination known for its beautiful beaches and unique wildlife, including the adorable quokkas. The Swan Valley, located to the northeast of Perth, is a renowned wine region, offering wine tastings and tours. Perth also serves as a gateway to exploring the diverse landscapes of Western Australia, including the iconic Pinnacles Desert and the stunning Margaret River region.
