Canberra is the capital city of Australia, located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) in the southeast of the country. It was specifically designed and built to serve as the capital city, and it was founded in 1913. With a population of over 400,000 people, Canberra is the largest inland city in Australia and is known for its beautiful natural setting and its many cultural and political institutions.
Canberra is the home of the Australian Federal Government and its public service, as well as many national monuments, museums, and art galleries. The city is home to a number of iconic landmarks such as the Australian War Memorial, the National Museum of Australia, the National Gallery of Australia and the Old Parliament House. The new Parliament House is also an interesting building to visit, it’s an architectural landmark and offers tours of the building and the chance to see the Australian Federal Government in action.
The city is also known for its beautiful natural setting. The Canberra Nature Park protects several nature reserves including Mount Ainslie, Black Mountain, and the Canberra National Botanic Gardens. They offer visitors opportunities to hike, bike and enjoy the wildflowers during spring.
