Kōkako is a highly endangered bird endemic to New Zealand. It is one of three New Zealand wattlebird species, the others are the Saddleback and the extinct Huia. Kōkako have a beautiful song with breeding pairs sounding like a duet. While not a flightless bird like many New Zealand species, they are not great at flying and prefer to hop from branch to branch or glide.
