Hamilton Island lies in the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland, Australia. It is the largest inhabited island in the island group and offers a big range of accommodation options from apartments to holiday homes. It has its own airport and a main street near a marina where there are a number of shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. Set within the Great Barrier Reef it offers dive tours as well as tours to world famous Whitehaven Beach, which is regarded as one of the best beaches in the world.
The island is the next challenger to the Americas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious yacht race in the world. It also featured in the movie Muriel's Wedding. The island even has a Beatles connection. George Harrison owned a house on Hamilton Island from the late 1980s. He and his wife spent much time here to get away from it all.
